Reviews – Sungai Gold

This was our 1st stay at Sungai Gold as we have stayed at Villa Sungai previously. The quality of accommodation, staff, food, service and professionalism never ceases to amaze us. From the time you arrive at the airport to the time you sadly depart is an experience that everyone should have at least once in a life time. Pamela and her staff have covered all avenues for a most wonderful and memorable holiday. Thank you Sungai, hopefully see you with our family in January.

Thanks Pamela – my stay at Villa Sungai Gold was wonderful yet again – will call you when the deposit goes through for my next visit. Amanwana was a great recommendation and I totally loved the experience but I have to say – it does not compete with the quality and service at Villa Sungai.

We’ve just finished our first evening (and 4th Ginger Margarita) and I just wanted to drop you a quick note to tell you that we’re not leaving….ever.   We’ve stayed in many villas and in fact just left a pretty incredible one, but the service, food quality, and relaxed luxury of Sungai is different than anything we’ve experienced previously.   It’s exactly what I hoped it would be and if tonight’s dinner is what the food will be like, we’ll never eat out. Also, Made told us about our being able to use Sungai Gold starting on the 3rd and I just wanted to say thank you again for that.   As if this wasn’t already perfect enough.., that will just take it over the top. You and your team are just absolute A+. Anyway, I need to go now as this laptop is evil in this place, but I just wanted to let you know that we couldn’t be happier.  This is truly a magical place.

Just wanted to let you know that our stay at Villa Sungai was sensational. The entire team at Villa Sungai are second to none. We felt like a part of the family although we weren’t the ones having to lift a finger at all. All we had to do was relax and by that I mean we were entirely relaxed the entire stay. We felt safe at all times and any question or request that we had was promptly actioned with a smile. The four of us have never experienced a holiday like this and we have all travelled extensively around the world. Having beautiful Desak massage and pamper us every day was a real treat. All the chefs that produced those amazing meals are definitely worthy of a big thank you. Due to this we did not eat outside the villa once. (No other famous restaurant could have compared). We had many a laugh with your staff and we ourselves found we were constantly laughing and smiling. Little Made was fantastic checking in on us and putting together itineraries for the day and letting us experience his healer certainly was a huge honour to us that we deeply respect. We hope that next time we will be able to visit the local school (they were on holidays) next time. We returned home feeling something had changed within us all. We found Cepaka and the beautiful people from there and the beautiful Villa has something very spiritual and magical about it that we can’t exactly pinpoint. It’s just a beautiful feeling we all have and that we feel we have taken a piece of that home with us in our hearts. We are already planning our return for next year but with maybe a few more people in tow. When we talk of our little slice of heaven to our family and friends I can see a little glint of jealously in their eye with a want to experience the same. Also, as a last note, thank you to you Pamela as the attention to detail in the preparation leading up to the holiday was fantastic and I can see that all your hard work has paid off. Your beautiful taste in decorating and all the little touches that are made is amazing. Looking forward to returning next year,

My apologies for not contacting you sooner, but my return to work after 2 weeks holiday has been quite hectic. I know that you and Dee have been in touch with each other so I won’t double up on that contact, I really wanted to take the time to say a very big thank you for the team’s efforts towards making Dee’s birthday at the villa that extra bit special. I know that you had mentioned dressing the villa, however, the two dancing girls were an added treat – the entire evening was delightful and we have you and the staff to thank for providing those memories. I would also like to say thank you for the team’s thoughtful gesture of dressing the main pavilion on our last evening – it looked sensational. A couple of other things which added to our third stay and exceeded our expectations (yet again) were that we spoke to MADE about taking us shopping to find  a Balinese mortar & pestle and one of the ceramic mosquito coil holders you use. The very next day, he presented Dee with the coil holder for her birthday and also left a mortar & pestle in our room. When I next saw MADE, I thanked him and asked him to put the mortar & pestle on our account. When settling the bill at the end of our stay, I mentioned the item was not on the bill to which MADE replied that it was a gift from the team. All these gestures exceeded our expectations and enhanced the Sungai experience for us. Both Dee & I like to think of Sungai as our home for a few days every October and the team as our friends.

From the moment I contacted Pamela, the owner, the Villa Sungai experience began. Obliging, thoughtful and thorough, I felt truly looked after and all my worries and concerns addressed. Having never been to Bali, and travelling on my own, this was my primary concern. I think the most innovative aspect of the Villa Sungai experience is the ability of the client to truly desire, design and create exactly what they want from their experience. This of course brings me to the undeniable fact that Pamela and her team are experts in actualising their clients’ dreams, catering to the personality and tastes of the guests. Villa Sungai is gorgeous… It’s an ideal honeymoon location and equally a fantastic family or special event venue. If you are a solo traveller I can assure you of the level of safety, privacy, and care. I would highly recommend informing Pamela of your requirements beforehand and to take the time to give as much information and detail as you can in the initial guest information form. In this way you have everything you desire organised and ready for you and you can get on with doing as much or as little as you please (I recommend doing little ;)). Having said that, if you forget to mention something, the staff are graciously accommodating and nothing is inconvenient. I won’t reiterate the numerous glowing reviews of the Villa Sungai and Staff, other than to say they paint an accurate picture. What I wanted to add was that most of the staff have been at the villa for many years, and Made the Villa manager has been alongside Pamela since the very beginning and initial conception of the Villa. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Pamela had insisted on using local contractors and builders etc. wherever possible. Made the now manager had been available to translate and help in negotiations in the construction of the premises. He informed me of how Pamela was sensitive to the local townspeople and had genuinely invested in helping the local community. This is not advertised as a selling point of the Villa. I learnt the Villa actively helps in raising funds for the local children’s English classes, and employ mostly local staff. These people have been with Pamela for many years. This, as well as the smiling local faces that greeted me in the village, convinces the cynic in me of the ethical beginnings of Villa Sungai. I believe many people would be comforted to know that their extravagant and luxurious stay is accepted and actually helping the local community. There are many more wonderful things to say about Villa Sungai, however some secrets and surprises are best experienced.
